HFB was started in an effort to generate materials that are suited for students learning Hindi as a second or a third language. We collaborate and interact with many teachers that teach Hindi in schools and universities in the US.
Sunita Verma-Kurvari has been teaching Hindi for many years. In the course of her teaching Hindi to students at various levels of proficiency, she has developed many useful insights and a keen sense of understanding about the limitations and challenges faced by students of a foreign language, particularly Hindi. In this series, she has elegantly articulated her insightful appreciation of the language, and together with her scholarly expertise, has weaved together an easy-to-use learning tool. As a scientist by training with a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, she has utilized her formal scientific training in creating a logically flowing language tool for beginning students of Hindi. As a native speaker of Hindi, hailing from the Western UP region of India - often referred to as "Hindi Belt", she brings an additional level of intimacy with Hindi language.
